Three Steps to Policy Powered Networking

  Features and Benefits

  • Save bandwidth by filtering out non-business traffic
  • Improve employee productivity and limit legal liability
  • Create new revenue opportunities with "safe" Internet service

The exponential growth in the use of Internet has revolutionized business processes and the flow of business and non-business information. The inappropriate use of the Internet is rapidly rising and adversely affecting corporate networks. Excessive amounts of "fun" P2P traffic, inappropriate content, or streaming media often degrade the performance of business-critical applications, reduce employee productivity and may expose businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions to legal liability.

Policy-Powered Networking

Allot Communications NetPureŽ policy-based Internet content filter offers second-generation URL filtering that links your business policy regarding Internet usage with your network resources. NetPure's artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm provides high precision filtering with greater Internet coverage than traditional Employee Internet Management (EIM) solutions that are based on lists of prohibited sites.

On corporate and school networks, NetPure offers URL filtering that increases employees', students' and educators' productive use of network resources and reduces bandwidth contention between "fun" content and business-critical or work-related applications.

On service provider networks, NetPure enables service providers to offer outsourced content control for corporations as well as for concerned parents and school systems.

Three Steps to Policy-Powered Networking

Policy-Powered Networking lets you efficiently manage your Internet traffic and to filter out undesirable Web content on an enterprise or service provider network. The process of implementing a Policy-Powered Networking solution includes three steps:

  1. Define policies that link your network resources with your Internet policy

Select the types of content that you want to filter, including adult content, gambling, weapons, hate , drugs and Web mail. Define network actions such as permitting free access, blocking or warning about adult material, or restricting certain types of material to selected hours.
  2. Create groups or individuals for filtering

Set up user groups by assigning IP addresses or subnet of addresses.
  3. Enforce your rules, monitor and report

Let NetPure examine all Web traffic and match it to the policies that you have defined. NetPure will permit access, warn, or block content. View logs that report on inappropriate usage as necessary

Features and Benefits

  • Save Bandwidth by Filtering Out Non-Business Traffic

NetPure filters out non-business traffic and lets you avoid increasing the size of your Internet connection due to poor application response. NetPure helps control spiraling network costs by ensuring that you upgrade your WAN link only when absolutely necessary.
  • Improve Productivity and Limit Liability

NetPure's Web content filtering enables your employees to be more productive by limiting access to non-business Web content, including pornographic and gambling-related content that can expose a company or educational institution to costly lawsuits.
  • Create New Revenue Opportunities with "Safe" Internet Service

NetPure enables service providers to create new revenue opportunities with lucrative services that attract new customers and retain existing ones. With NetPure, service providers can offer outsourced content control for residential, business and institutional customers.
  • Keep Education Safe

The Internet is the world's largest library. But among the astronomy, ecology and history is a vast amount of content that is unsuitable for growing minds. Where Internet filtering is mandated by law or desired by schools, parents or educators, NetPure can be used to keep inappropriate Internet content out of the reach of children.
  • Complete Internet Coverage

NetPure's artificial intelligence offers complete Internet coverage since it does not rely on limited databases of undesirable URLs. NetPure inspects each requested page on the fly to ensure its compliance with corporate, institutional, or parental usage policies. This means complete and reliable coverage for English and non-English Web sites and even for content on proxy servers and cache servers-not covered by other filters.
  • Limit Access to Only Inappropriate Material

Up to 15% of Web sites that are blocked by traditional filtering software are done so in error. Furthermore, other solutions that incorporate key word matching may incorrectly identify Web sites about "breast cancer" as pornography and block important health-related information. In contrast, NetPure's artificial intelligence analyzes the content on Web pages and evaluates the context. This maximizes the accuracy of your content filtering and ensures that essential information is not accidentally blocked.

  • HTTP Content Filter Appliance Solution

NetPure is an HTTP content filter appliance solution that offers quick setup. NetPure alleviates the need for on-site hardware/software integration and the high-level networking expertise needed to align firewall and proxy policies with those of the filtering device. In addition, NetPure saves you the on-going technical support needed for maintaining the database of prohibited URLs. And unlike software-only solutions that require a separate reporting server, NetPure includes a reporting engine inside the appliance.

  • Traffic Redirection Control (with NetEnforcer and CacheEnforcer)

The NetEnforcerŽ policy enforcement device and the CacheEnforcerŽ cache management module ensure that NetPure filters all Web traffic. Easily integrated with NetPure, they also alleviate the painstaking task of modifying your switching or routing infrastructure and/or changing your client setup when implementing Employee Internet Management.

  • Real-time Traffic Monitoring and Reporting (with NetEnforcer or CacheEnforcer)

The Traffic Monitor presents real-time macro and micro views of traffic and performance from a single, easy-to-read GUI. NetEnforcer lets you view traffic per users, sessions and applications. Quickly change between table views, line graphs, full color bar graphs and area graphs to view top consumers of bandwidth, or to find out who is slowing down the network by downloading large files with FTP. Special emphasis has been placed on ease-of-use and ergonomics, with such features as mouse-overs with tool tips; the ability to save frequently used monitoring views as "My Favorite"; and extensive navigational shortcuts using right mouse-clicks.

  • Reporting

NetPure also offers extensive reporting capabilities that enable network managers to analyze Internet browsing and usage patterns per user, time-of-day, or category. Additional reports offer information on bandwidth consumption including top sites visited and the busiest clients on the network.
  • Complete Policy-Based Traffic Management Solution

The NetEnforcer, CacheEnforcer and the NetPure offer a complete fail-safe policy-based management solution for transparent content filtering, traffic redirection and bandwidth management.

The NetEnforcer is also an excellent platform for managing bandwidth, applications and users. NetEnforcer's advanced QoS module enables you to control expensive network resources so mission-critical business applications such as VoIP, Citrix or Oracle deliver maximum performance.

On service provider networks, the NetEnforcer offers a complete suite of tools for better managing over-subscription and enforcing Service Level Agreements (SLAs). ISPs can offer their subscribers the ability to remotely monitor their Internet usage per application and per user. In addition, NetEnforcer offers management of multiple access links and provisioning of users per class of service. An accounting package provides the ISP with billing-per-usage infrastructure.
