Small Enterprise/Branch Office Visibility, Control and Acceleration of Web Communications

The Web is increasingly critical for business operations for small enterprises and branch offices while the growth of new threats such as spyware, viruses, trojans and browser attacks leveraging real-time web communications continue to spiral upward.

Allowing direct Internet access from branch offices can unburden corporate WANs from bandwidth-robbing spyware that often impedes business processes. However, IT administrators face the challenge of installing, configuring and managing secure networks in branch offices where IT staff are generally scarce. A primary goal of IT is to reduce costs to support remote offices while increasing security and control as Internet content (and associated threats) continue to evolve.

Small enterprises face the same web challenges as enterprise datacenters. The ProxySG 400 Series provides the same visibility and control features found in our enterprise-grade ProxySG 8000 Series appliances. In forward proxy mode the ProxySG filters web browser requests and responses with on-proxy URL list support and content controls, plus provides spyware prevention, WebAV, IM controls, P2P file sharing controls, streaming media controls, phishing attack unmasking, and bandwidth management.

In reverse proxy mode, ProxySG 400 provides acceleration of web applications (such as Outlook Web Access) or content from web origin servers while isolating these web servers from direct Internet access. Optional SSL services in ProxySG secure communications and off-load application servers.

The ProxySG 400 provides a rack mountable proxy appliance for small enterprises and branch offices where direct Internet access requires visibility and control. Remote offices gain acceleration of web-based applications from a centralized corporate network hub leveraging compression, bandwidth management and integrated caching features found in the ProxySG 400. With multiple options available for authentication integration, the ProxySG appliances can be configured to advise, coach and enforce policies for remote sites, groups and individual users.

Centralized policy administration (for multi-site deployments) is provided by Blue Coat Director, while Blue Coat Reporter provides log aggregation from multiple remote-office appliances for concise reports and analysis of web communications and policy enforcement.
