Enterprise Data Center Visibility, Control and Acceleration of Web Communications

Blue Coat ProxySG 8000 Series represent the next generation in high-end proxy appliance platforms. These purpose-built proxy appliances provide total visibility, control and acceleration of Web communications with wire-speed performance. Based on Blue Coat SGOS, a custom, object-based operating system with integrated caching and compression, these proxy appliances leverage existing authentication systems to enable flexible policy enforcement on content, users, applications and protocols.

In forward proxy mode, ProxySG filters users' web browser requests and responses with on-proxy URL list support and content controls, plus provides spyware prevention, WebAV, IM controls, P2P file sharing controls, streaming media controls, phishing attack unmasking, and bandwidth management.

In reverse proxy mode, the ProxySG provides acceleration of web applications or content from origin web servers while isolating them from direct Internet access. ProxySG provides optimized TCP communications unmatched by general purpose servers and gateways. Optional SSL services secure communications and off-load application servers.

For hub-spoke deployments between enterprise datacenters and remote offices, the ProxySG 8000 Series provides compression services between itself and remote office ProxySG appliances. The ProxySG also supports compression services between itself and web browsers with compression services enabled. In mixed mode, the ProxySG can provide both compressed and uncompressed web content delivery to accelerate web communications, plus leverage integrated caching to reduce the workload on origin web servers.

The 8000 series, based on a modular chassis, utilizes dual Xeon P4 3.2GHz Intel processors and disk capacity up to 584 GB. Utilizing the patent-pending SGOS with integrated caching and compression for performance, organizations can advise, coach and enforce granular policies down to individual users while accelerating web applications. The ProxySG 8000 Series provides four models with a Visual Policy Manager graphical interface or command-line interface.

Centralized policy administration is provided by Blue Coat Director, while Blue Coat Reporter provides log aggregation from multiple branch office ProxySG 400 appliances into concise reports to analyze web communications and policy enforcement.
