New in XenDesktop 3Deliver desktops as a service to users anywhereCitrix XenDesktop™ 3 is the newest release of Citrix market-leading desktop virtualization (VDI)solution. XenDesktop 3 incorporates several new Citrix HDX™ technologies, giving virtual desktop users a richer high-definition experience with enhanced support for multimedia and peripherals. XenDesktop 3 also dramatically improves scalability, hosting twice as many virtual desktops per server as previous versions. With version 3, XenDesktop becomes the first product on the market to deliver Microsoft® Windows® desktops from a common set of centrally managed images that can be run either in the datacenter (hosted) or directly on a PC or thin client device (local). This new capability gives IT organizations far more flexibility, reducing desktop management costs by making efficient use of distributed processing power across both servers and endpoint devices. Citrix HDX for hosted virtual desktopsXenDesktop 3 includes new HDX technology that ensures users get a high definition user experience on any device over any network. HDX MediaStream technology provides users with seamless multimedia playback - in a remote desktop scenario - by leveraging the local endpoint device to render the new video and audio. XenDesktop 3 also adds HDX Plug-n-Play capabilities to enable users to easily connect a wide variety of USB peripherals to their hosted virtual desktops. These enhanced capabilities utilize existing infrastructure, without the need for proprietary chipsets or specialized hardware. Double the scalabilityXenDesktop 3 significantly reduces the cost of delivering hosted virtual desktops, leveraging our latest XenServer 5 virtual infrastructure. XenDesktop 3 offers the ability to host two times more virtual desktops per server when compared to previous versions. This cuts server acquisition costs and on-going management expenses in half for hosted virtual desktops. The bare-metal performance of XenServer also ensures that scalability doesn’t come at the expense of user experience or manageability. Host and stream desktops from a single imageXenDesktop 3 is the only solution that offers IT the flexibility to deliver both hosted and streamed virtual desktops—all using a single virtual desktop master image—to meet the needs of different types of users. IT can deliver hosted virtual desktops to office workers to provide them with the flexibility to use any device and connect over any network, while ensuring data security - that data, intellectual property and confidential information never leaves the datacenter. For office workers with LAN-connected, standardized PCs or desktop appliances, IT can stream centrally managed desktops to the endpoint device and leverage the local computing power and graphics capabilities. With the flexibility to run desktops on both local PCs and the datacenter infrastructure, XenDesktop enables IT to streamline desktop management by manage virtual desktops centrally, and run them wherever it makes most sense.
Additional new featuresProfile management – XenDesktop 3 is the only solution that includes built-in profile management to make it easy for IT to provide a personalized, consistent experience for users every time they log on to their virtual desktop (VDI) environment, regardless of endpoint devices or locations. Smart Card authentication – With a single swipe of a Smart Card, a user can access a virtual desktop and seamlessly authenticate into into applications. In addition, XenDesktop enables a worker to roam from device to device and have his or her personal session automatically follow them. Datasheets:
