Features and Benefits
| Feature |
Benefits |
| Modular system delivering raw processing power |
- Slim and powerful, the blade design delivers high density
without sacrificing server processor performance.
- Up to 42 four-processor servers in an industry-standard rack
or up to 40 four-processor servers in a telecommunications industry-standard,
84-inch rack, packing more performance per square foot and saving
you valuable central office and/or data center real estate.
|
| Multiprocessor Expansion Unit |
- Elegantly simple scalability, allowing easy expansion from
a two-processor configuration to a four-processor configuration.
- Pay-as-you-grow flexibility: Start with the base (two-processor)
unit and expand as needed, protecting the initial investment.
|
| Supports up to four AMD Opteron processors |
- Support for dual-core processors up to 3.0 GHz.
- AMD Opteron processors offer an Integrated Memory Controller
that allows for increased bandwidth and reduced latency for
certain applications.
- Support for standard power processors as well as high-efficiency and extreme efficiency processors that draw up to one-third less power than the standard processors. Note that the models that use the standard power processors are designed for use in the BladeCenter H chassis. Due to increased power and thermal needs, these processors will run at “n-2” processor speed in the BladeCenter and BladeCenter T chassis. In most cases this represents a speed reduction of 400 MHz. Models that use the high-efficiency processors will run at full speed in all chassis.
|
| Up to 64 GB of DDR II memory |
- Up to 16 DIMM slots per server blade.
- Very Low Profile (VLP) DDR II DIMMs help to maximize the amount
of memory that can be installed in the ultra-dense blade.
|
| Support for two internal SAS hard disk drives (HDDs) or two solid
state disks, along with expansion opportunities |
- The IBM BladeCenter LS41 supports up to two non-hot-swap SAS
HDDs in a choice of capacities—up to 146.8 GB each.
- Solid state drive improves reliability and energy-efficiency with a choice of capacities up to 32 GB each.
- Supports the Storage and I/O Expansion Blade (SIO), which allows each blade to support up to three additional hot-swap SFF SAS HDDs.
- SIO includes optional support for RAID-5 and battery-backed cache.
|
| Integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet connections |
- Each blade includes two or four (depending on configuration)
TOE (TCI/P Offload Engine) enabled NIC ports capable of transmitting
large amounts of data at fast speeds for high-performance network
applications.
- Robust design supports teaming and failover.
- Planned iSCSI and RDMA support available at a later date.
|
| Two high-availability midplane connections |
- Each blade is reliably and easily connected via two redundant
paths to the passive midplane and the integrated switching and
power infrastructure contained in the BladeCenter chassis.
|
| Light path diagnostics standard |
- LED lights provide a quick and easy guide to troubleshoot
your server. Faster problem resolution means higher availability
and more server uptime.
- Independently powered, allowing you to remove the server from the chassis and still illuminate the light path LEDs.
|
| Predictive Failure Analysis |
- Helps save you time and money by decreasing planned and unplanned
downtime.
- Increases uptime by allowing you to receive proactive alerts as much as 24 – 48 hours in advance.
|
| Integrated System Management Processor |
- Increases server availability by continuously monitoring your system and notifying you of potential system failures or changes.
|
| IBM Director and IBM Director Extensions—comprehensive
systems management tools |
- Exploits hardware capabilities by surfacing pertinent information
about your system, allowing you to automate a response.
- Helps increase uptime, reduce costs and improve productivity via advanced server management capabilities.
- Provides intelligent system management for rock-solid reliability.
- IBM Remote Deployment Manager simplifies and automates server deployment and redeployment for efficient installation and startup.
